Spring Break

During Spring Break I did many things. One of
them was that Brother De Leon invited me to
go, along with other Brothers, to help remodel
another Kingdom Hall, which is one of the many
places in which we, as Jehovah's Witnesses, worship
Jehovah God. Since Brother De Leon has a carpeting
business, he has been put in charge to recarpet
different Kindom Halls throughout this area, so
on Saturday March 21 we went to carpet the Kingdom
Hall. It was a hard job, but finally when we finished
it ended up looking great. Besides, my favorite part
was that I got to socialize with all our Brothers and
also that I was further trained in the art of carpeting.
Another thing that I did during our week off was,
along with my mom and our Brothers and Sisters
of our congregation, take part in preaching the Word
of Jehovah God and all of his promises. What was really
fun was that we were able to start early in the morning,
from about 7:20, to about 12:00. Of course, my favorite
part, as always, was that not only was I worshiping Jehovah,
but also the partnership in working alongside my Brothers
and Sisters.

The solution to all the global problems

As we now see everyday in the newspaper and
television, problems around have increased
dramatically. One of them, though, that might
affect us the most is what is happening in Juarez.
Why? Most likely because Juarez is just passing
the border. Now, with this fact rises a question,
"Should we do anything to help our "neighbor"?"
You know, as imperfect humans, we can't really
do anything to fix this, or any other global situation.
Why? In the very Bible, we are explained the
reason for this. In Jeremiah 10:23, it is written,
"I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his
way does not belong. It does not belong to man who
is walking even to direct his step." Here we are told
that mankind who is away from Jehovah's guidance
cannot direct, or guide, his own decisions, or steps, to
success, then with even more reason they can't
guide that of others. Now, this doesn't mean that
we are doomed to withstand all the suffering and pain
that we see everyday. Why? Well, very soon Jehovah
will bring forth his Kingdom, which will fill with everlasting
blessings everyone who loves him. Right about now
you are probably saying to yourself,"Well this sound
really wonderful, but what exactly does this "soon" mean,
how long do we have to wait for this "soon" to come?
You know, you are not the first one to ask this very question.
In Bible times, when Jesus Christ talked to everyone about
the Kingdom of God, which will bring an end to wickedness
and make the earth a paradise, people also wanted to know
when this Kingdom would come. Even his disciples asked
him,"What will be the sign of your presence and
of the conclusion of the system of things?” In reply to that
question, Jesus told them that only Jehovah God knew
exactly when the end of this system of things would come.
(Matthew 24:36) But he did foretell things that would take
place on earth just before the Kingdom would bring true peace
and security to mankind. In Matthew 24:7 he stated two
things that would, and are, occurring in the short time before
the Kingdom comes, he said,"Nation will rise against
nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there
will be food shortages." To support this statement, a British
historian wrote: "The 20th century was the most murderous
in recorded history... It was a century of almost unbroken
war, with few and brief periods without organised armed
conflict somewhere." Also, even though researchers say
that food production has increased greatly during the past 30
years, food shortages still continue because people do
not have the money tobuy it or land on which to grow it.
Aside from identifying certain world developements, the
Bible foretold that the last days would be marked by a change
in human society. The apostle Paul described what
people would be like during this period in 2 Timothy 3:1-5,
he wrote," But know this, that in the last days critical
times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be
lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming,
haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful,
disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to
any agreement, slanderers, without self-control,
fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong,
puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather
than lovers of God, having a form of godly devotion
but proving false to its power; and from these turn away."
You can probably agree that nowdays we see people act
like this, like in Juarez, it takes someone with no natural
affection and fierce to kill so many innocent people.
Okay, so now, using the Bible, I have told you all the
bad things that we would see during the last days, but
believe it or not the Bible also foretells the positive
developements that will come among the worshipers of
Jehovah. For example, what Jesus Christ said in Matthew 24:14,
"And this good news of the kingdom will be preached
in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations;
and then the end will come." Throughout the earth the
good news of the Kingdom- what the Kingdom is, what it
will do, and how we can recieve its blessings- is being
preached in over 230 lands and in more than 400 languages.
And you know, the most wonderfull of all of those blessings
is the one recorded in Revelation 21:4,5, "And he will wipe
out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more,
neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.
The former things have passed away.” And the One
seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making
all things new.” Also, he says: “Write, because these
words are faithful and true.” As you can see, Jehovah
God is the only one who can really do something to
rid mankind of all suffering. Finally, something that
we can look up to is that all of his promises are faithful
and true, for he will truly keep his promises, because,
"upon the basis of a hope of the everlasting life which
God, who cannot lie, promised before times long lasting,"
(Titus 1:2).That's right, we can look up to Jehovah keeping his
promises because he cannot lie.
